Golf in Cape Breton: Stay Oceanside and Play Highlands Links & Bell Bay

Cape Breton Golf and Stay

A New Way to Experience Golf in Cape Breton

Golf in Cape Breton has always been about more than just the course.

The golf itself is exceptional, but what people remember most tends to go beyond the round - the setting, the pace of the day, and the moments that happen before and after. It is this connection between place and experience that defines golf here.

At Cormorant Rock, we’ve brought those elements together through a series of Golf and Stay packages that combine ocean-front accommodation with access to two of the region’s most respected courses - Highlands Links and Bell Bay.

Highlands Links, Just Minutes Away

For many, Highlands Links is the course that draws them to Cape Breton in the first place.

Located just minutes from Cormorant Rock within Cape Breton Highlands National Park, it is widely recognized as one of the top public golf courses in Canada and the world. Designed by Stanley Thompson, the course is often included in global must-play lists and is considered one of his most complete works.

The routing moves naturally through  a mix of forest, elevation, and coastal terrain, creating a round that feels both varied and cohesive. It is a challenging but fair test, shaped as much by the dramatic landscape as by design.

A Change of Setting at Bell Bay

Bell Bay Golf Club offers a complementary experience.

Located in Baddeck, less than an hour from Cormorant Rock, the course sits above the Bras d’Or Lakes and is known for its open layout and consistently maintained conditions. It has hosted national and provincial championships and remains one of Atlantic Canada’s standout courses.

Where Highlands Links is shaped by its natural surroundings, Bell Bay feels more open and fluid, with a different rhythm to the round, but equally rewarding.

Back at Cormorant Rock

Returning to Cormorant Rock is part of what completes the day.

Each chalet is set directly on the ocean, with a private outdoor space and open living areas ideal for small group gatherings. After a round, the pace shifts naturally.

Some will cook. Others might bring something back to enjoy. Evenings often unfold on the deck, with a glass of wine and views across the water.  The setting is quiet, with little around you beyond the coastline.

Inside, the space is designed to be shared.  Refined yet relaxed at the same time, .  A place that is comfortable, and easy to settle into.

The stay here becomes part of the overall experience, not just a place to sleep.
